Woodward Stakes Betting - Double Grade 1 Action

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 8/29/2012 6:28:50 PM

Who: Thoroughbreds – Mucho Macho Man and Shackleford (win).
What: Horse Racing Betting Tips –  Woodward, Forego Stakes                      Where: Saratoga
When: Saturday September 1

The Grade 1 Woodward Stakes and the Grade 1 Forego Stakes will be renewed this Saturday at Saratoga at 9 furlongs with $750,000 on the line on the former event and $500,000 on the latter.

The 9-furlong Woodward, which has been run for 6 decades, has had some horse betting legends etched in its history including Kelso, Seattle Slew, Affirmed, Spectacular Bid, Cigar and Curlin.

In 2011 Harve de Grace, who was coming off a nose loss, beat the boys in the Woodward becoming only the second distaffer to win the race in history.

Only the speedy survive in the Forego, at 7 furlongs, which has been won by some meteors like Groovy, Housebuster, and Midnight Lute. Last year Jackson Bend, who won his first start of the year in a $78,000 stakes, made it 2 for 2 in 2011 coming from third last and 8 back to post a winning 107 Beyer.

Cease is an interesting entrant in the Woodward. The runner has shown moments of brilliance on dirt and he’s in the good hands of Al Stall, who had this to say in the Saratoga notes, Stall: “We know we’re stepping up but he acts like it’s his home track. This is where his best numbers and races are.”

Rule draws the rail again after a poor try in his last, his second betting sites start of the year.

Gourmet Dinner has his work cut out, as this race is a far cry from winning a $100,000 stakes at Monmouth by a neck.

Trickmeister has a penchant for finding the wire but has not won a Graded stakes.
Stay Thirsty, my friends, needs a rebound run after a poor Suburban. To Honor and Serve has burned some Benjamins of late bit key off his Grade 1 Cigar win last year and he fits.

Mucho Macho Man has only lost once this year and that was off a layoff. His ability to lead or closely track is his ace in the hole.

To Honor and Serve has won at this distance at Saratoga but only in optional claiming land. He is proven off the bench but comes off a dull Grade 2 effort.

Look for Trickmeister to send and try to steal it. Mucho Macho Man should sit a solid two-hole trip with Rule in the first flight.

At the top of the lane things will unravel for Trickmeister and Mucho Macho Man can inherit the lead with a furlong to go and coast to the wire.

Speedsters abound in the Forego.

Shackleford is out to make amends after flopping as chalk in the muddy Vanderbilt but he had the legit excuse and he has won half of his 4 efforts at this distance.

Jackson Bend is lucky he made this race. The runner was run into by another horse during training hours a week or so ago and is touch and go even to run here. He was coming into this race much sharper last year.

Caixa Eletronic needs a rebound run after a horrible Whitney performance and looms the long-fused component for Todd. Pletcher.

Isn’t He Perfect has failed to close the deal in his last pair and must prove it in Graded company.

Jersey Town has to flee the rail and Jackson Bend has handled him easily in the past.
Emcee gets tested for class and he has been beaten in his other Graded efforts but has only run one poor race in his career.

Justin Phillip can handle any kind of going, may even move up in the off going and ran his eyeballs out in defeat in the Grade 1 Vanderbilt earlier this month.

Pacific Ocean will try to steal it as he brings sub :44 speed to the party.

Hamazing Destiny has to prove he can win at Saratoga after 6 local defeats and his lone win this year came in a softer spot.

Look for a reversal of fortune from Shackleford. If he can run back to his Met Mile Beyer figure of 115, the rest are looking at minor awards.

Good luck with your sports betting.
