Who:Thoroughbreds – Hymn Book (win).
What:Horse Racing Betting Tips–  Whitney Handicap
Where: Saratoga
When: Saturday August 4

The 85th running of the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap will be renewed this Saturday at Saratoga at 9 furlongs with $750,000 on the line.

Legends like Kelso, Dr. Fager, Lady’s Secret and Easy Goer have won this race in days past and last year Tizway parlayed a horse racing bet win in the Met Mile to a Whitney score when he got a perfect 3-hole trip while posting a 111 Beyer.

This is a ‘win and you’re in’ race meaning the hero gets an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Ron the Greek was impressive last time taking the Grade 1 Stephen Foster in game style and trainer Bill Mott will not only saddle this runner but also and Flat Out.

Ron was second in his only start at Saratoga but he has won 4 of 6 since with 2 seconds. Versatile enough to lead or come from left field, he carries the highweight of 120 and should be a handful.

Flat Out proved his class winning a Grade 2 last year and if you figure he needed his last, you have something to work with here.

Todd Pletcher will be represented by both Rule, a recent winner of a Grade 2 race at Monmouth and Caixa Eletronica, a disappointing 5th in his recent effort.

Rule has never been out of the money locally while winning once but he has to prove it in this company. Caixa has won 3 times this year, but this is a far cry from beating up on Charles Town rivals.

Endorsement will need a rebound effort off a poor try in the Suburban while two recent Grade 3 winners, Fort Larned and Hunters Bay will face the starter. Hunters Bay has won three in a row, but in Canada. Fort Larned was crushed by Greek in the Foster.

The controversial Richard Dutrow Jr. will be looking to tweak the bet on sports establishment with the ironically named Trickmeister. The Trickster is lightly raced and has never won a Graded race. His best asset is his blinding speed.

Hymn Book’s backers will be praying for a hot pace. He needs plenty of help up front but had a legit excuse in his last race and he kicked off the year winning the Grade 1 Donn in Florida.

When the gates are sprung, look for Rule to be sent hard from the rail. Endorsement won’t be far away but they all will have to collar Trickmeister. This runner brings :45 and change speed to the table, won his only start at Saratoga and has trained forwardly since needed his last race.

At the top of the lane, Hymn Book and Ron the Greek will start to unleash big runs but when the smoke clears Greek will come to feel the need for a race while Hymn Book will loop the field under the last rider who won with him, Johnny Velazquez.

Start singing when Hymn Book finishes in front.

Good luck on the betting.
