Turf Handicap Betting - The Kingdom

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 2/7/2013 5:55:12 PM

What: Turf Handicap
Who:  Point of Entry (win)
Where: Gulfstream Park
When: Saturday, February 9

The 2011 Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom will be making his 2013 debut in the $300,000 9-furlong Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap on Saturday but it will not be a walk in the park. This pro has run only one poor race and it came in the slop in the Belmont Stakes.

Online sports betting site players will have options but Animal Kingdom, who came off an extended layoff to run second to eventual Horse of the Year Wise Dan in the BC Mile, has a short and sweet racing menu set before his retirement Down Under.

His trainer Graham Motion had this to say on the Gulfstream site, Motion: “The big picture is getting him to Dubai. This race is an important steppingstone. Believe me, he’s going to be ready to run, and it’s not going to be easy.”

Multiple Grade 1 winner Point of Entry and streaking Unbridled Command will make it tough on the Animal.

Point of Entry was getting to Little Mike in the BC Turf but fell a half-length short of victory. Proven locally, he has won 5 of his last 6 and he is repeatedly proven fresh.

Unbridled Command has been a betting sites monster since being put on turf. It took him awhile to pass the N1X level but this New York-bred had a coming out party at Saratoga last summer and he shipped 3000 miles to take the Hollywood Derby in the 2012 closer.

Film Making breaks from the fence but this is a tough spot for just a maiden winner.

Salto has won one race in the states and it was on the synthetic while Where’s the Baby has never been a win machine with a dozen slices and just 3 wins.

This race is pretty much devoid of speed and a runner that could lull them to sleep on the front end, could be the one to beat. That is what Salto will try to do but not sure this guy has the class to beat some accomplished foes here.

As the race unfolds, look for Joe Bravo to send hard and try to steal it. He could have the lead at the top of the lane but not sure he will be able to close the deal.

So, who’s left?

Unbridled Command was flattered as the horse that just chased him home when second won next out  in a Grade 2 at BetFair Hollywood. He has trained fast for this and seems to be coming to the race at the top of the game.

Animal Kingdom could be over bet. Sure, the class is there and he has been expertly managed but the pinnacle for him will be to win in the Dubai World Cup, so this is just a race to get him set. He could win on class alone, but it will not be easy.

And that leaves us with a proven horse betting player who has won three Grade 1s in a row and who graduated at this distance in his maiden breaker when the race came off the grass.

His name is Point of Entry, and his game is winning.

Good luck.
