Triple Crown Betting - Oxbow Incident

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 1/22/2013 6:12:12 PM

The Oxbow Incident is an American Western made in the 1940s that was nominated for an Academy Award but the Oxbow incident that occurred at Fair Grounds last weekend could have a solid impact on the Triple Crown horse betting scene.

Online sports betting site players have long known about the Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas and now they know about his up and coming sophomore Oxbow, who is bred to run till the cows come home but more about that later.

This $250,000 purchase had always shown speed but he put it on display for all to see in the LeComte Stakes winning for fun with a solid 91 Beyer.

This runner encountered a mishap in his debut last summer and hooked a freak in his second start but he flashed good speed in his Churchill debut and then controlled the pace and the outcome breaking his maiden at the demanding distance of 7 furlongs.

Lukas thought enough of him to ship West and try the Hollywood Futurity and he was far from disgraced when he was hung wide every step of the way to finish fourth.

The winner that day, Violence, has been tabbed the 12-1 favorite in the Wynn Kentucky Derby Future Book.

Lukas sure knows what to do with a good horse as he has won 13 Triple Crown races including 4 wins in the Kentucky Derby.

The trainer watched the race from Oaklawn but he was impressed, Lukas: “The thing about him is he has such an efficiency of motion. He has such a high cruising speed, which you always like with a horse going a mile and a quarter and beyond. You like to see a horse handle the situation that you put him in. We took all the worst of it shipping in yesterday and taking on your local guys all having works over the racetrack. So we took all the worst of it and still got along pretty good.”

There were several sprinters stretching out in the LeComte so it was kind of surprising he got such and easy lead. The son of Awesome Again set splits of :48.58 and 1:13.34 and finished the mile in 1:43.30.

The thing that makes Oxbow most exciting is his pedigree and the blood that says he will get the classic distance.

His unraced dam dropped stakes winner Awesome Patriot but the dam also has some nice siblings.

Her kin Budroyale won 17 times, won multiple Grade 2s and banked nearly $3 million. And he was not even her most prestigious kin.

That honor would go to Tiznow, who took the Super Derby at 2, won 8 of 15 in his career, won the Breeders’ Cup Classic twice and banked nearly $6.5 million.

Half the battle of winning a Triple Crown race is just showing up and getting there and the other half is having the stamina and the stoutness to keep to the task and finish each and every betting sites job.

Finally, don’t look for Lukas to baby this horse. He knows you have to have a warrior to win the first Saturday in May and he will do his best to have his runner peaking at the right time.
