To Honor and Serve

Who: Thoroughbreds ??? To Honor and Serve, Air Support, Game On Dude
What: Horse Racing Betting Tips ??? The Suburban Handicap, The United Nations, The Hollywood Gold Cup Handicap??
Where: Belmont Park, Monmouth Park, Hollywood Park
When: Saturday, July 7th

Top older horses capture the spotlight this weekend with a trio of races, each on a different surface. First is the 126th Running of the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap on the Belmont Park main oval, followed closely by the Grade 1 United Nations over the Monmouth Park turf course. Finally, on the left coast, we have the 73rd Running of the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup Handicap on the Hollywood Park Cushion Track. Here???s a brief look at each race:

The rail did favored To Honor and Serve no favors last time, as he checked in third in the Met Mile while in tight quarters most of the way. He should appreciate the switch to the outside post in the Suburban, where jockey Jose Lezcano will have a chance to survey the opposition. This race is no picnic, with a quartet of millionaires, including the aforementioned To Honor and Serve, likely to make their presence felt. The first, #1-Stay Thirsty had a useful local tuneup last out, and should move forward. The second, stablemate #1a-Caixa Eletronica, went from last-to-first to capture the Grade 2 True North most recently, and is 2-for-2 at the Suburban distance of 1 1/8th miles. The third is the talented and consistent #6-Mucho Macho Man, whose three-race winning streak was snapped last out at Churchill Downs. Then there???s the up-and-coming #3-Buffum, winner of three straight, #4-Hymn Book, who finished second in this race last year, and the speedy #5-Trickmeister, winner of 6-of-7 starts, who should take this field a long way on the front end. Still, I like To Honor and Serve to win this with a stalk-and-pounce trip at odds of 3-2 or better.

The United Nations is a wide-open affair, so it might be best to shop for a bit of a price. I like #7-Air Support to pop up with one of his occasional big efforts. He probably needed his first start of the year (and first vs. older horses) at Keeneland, so I can forgive his rather dull effort. He was steadied repeatedly in the Grade 2 Dixie at Pimlico, and last out finished second in the $500K Colonial Turf Cup despite a troubled start and a wide trip. This looks like a horse that will appreciate the 1 3/8th-mile distance of the United Nations???he got up to win the Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs at 1 ?? miles, so the extra furlong should suit him just fine. The McGaughey runner turned in a nice 4-furlong breeze around the dogs on June 27th at Belmont Park, and accomplished veteran Alex Solis retains the I???ll be supporting #7-Air Support to win and place at odds of 4-1 or better.

I won???t spend much time analyzing the Hollywood Gold Cup Handicap, because #6-Game On Dude looks like a standout. He???s the controlling speed, which mitigates the chances of his closest competitor and stablemate, #2-Richard???s Kid, who is a confirmed closer. I???ll bet on Game On Dude to win at odds of 2-5 or better. What the heck???that???s a 40% return on your money in approximately two minutes flat.

Those are my horse racing betting tips for the weekend. Best of luck and happy gambling! ????????????????
