Super Derby Betting - Brawling in the Bayou

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 9/6/2012 6:44:05 PM

Who: Thoroughbreds – Blueskiesnrainbows (win) Bourbon Courage, Rousing Sermon underneath
What: Horse Racing Betting Tips –  Super Derby
Where: Louisiana Downs
When: Saturday September 8

A cool half a million dollars will be on the line Saturday at Louisiana Downs when the Grade 2 Super Derby is renewed at 8 furlongs and a competitive horse betting group has penned their names in the entries for a shot at the cash.

Inaugurated in 1980 stars like Kentucky Derby winner Sunny’s Halo, Preakness hero Gate Dancer, Triple Crown players Alysheba and Sunday Silence and double Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Tiznow have succeeded in this race over the years.

Last year Bob Baffert’s student Prayer for Relief parlayed a win in the Grade 2 West Virginia Derby to a score in this fixture when he took them flagfall to that’s all with a 98 Beyer.

Baffert is back for more in 2012, as Blueskiesnrainbows will attempt to better his winning effort in the Grade 2 Swaps when recording a 103 Beyer.

Repeatedly proven off the bench, this guy has worked well since the last effort.

Those betting sites saying amen to Rousing Sermon will likely get value, as this runner is coming off a defeat in a state-bred stakes and he has blanked this year. He has the two races to draw from now and could be set for a peak performance.

Mr Bluegrass Music will try to do something he never has and that’s win going a route of ground. He also was just handled by two of today’s rivals, Key Donation and Tensas Cold Front.

Key Donation is the in good hands of Tom Amoss and has thrived once given a chance to go a distance of ground but he gets tested for class here after winning the $100K Prelude locally.

Tensas Cold Front is giving away a lot of experience but he needed his last and has natural speed.

Bourbon Courage will have some Jack Daniels fans in the crowd and the runner ran his eyeballs out in defeat last time in the WV Derby. He broke onto the scene winning his debut with a 103 Beyer, and then nearly matched that winning his next race.

His trainer Kellyn Gorder had this to say recently about his last race when he had an eventful trip being far back and losing a shoe in the process.

Gorder: “We knew the rail had been playing pretty dead the whole day. We knew it wasn’t the ideal place to be but he was kind of pinned down on the rail. We were happy with his effort.”

Gorder, who learned from legend Jack Van Berg, knows what to do with a good horse having worked with Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, BC Classic hero Drosselmeyer and Dubai World Cup winner Well Armed.

Hero of Order has contending speed and he nearly blew up the tote board winning the Louisiana Derby here in the spring at 109-1. He is out to prove that race was no fluke.

Fly Lexis Fly is making his second stateside start after beating only one at Del Mar and although he is in the world-class hands of Neil Drysdale, he’ll need a rebound run.

Master Rick has to prove it in Graded company and he was getting late in the Prelude. He basically got good for about a month early in the year.

When the gates are sprung look for Mr Bluegrass Grass to be forced to gun hard from the rail.

Blueskiesnrainbows will be forwardly placed, as will Master Rick and Tensas Cold Front.

Things will unfold at the top of the lane when Blueskiesnrainbows, who was third to this year’s Kentucky Derby winner in May, is asked the question and he will respond to scamper away.

Use Bourbon Courage and Rousing Sermon in the gimmicks.

Good luck with your sport betting.
