Shooting for a Breeders’ Cup Score

Posted by Pete Mitchell on 11/1/2012 5:03:17 PM

Who: Thoroughbreds – Atigun, Sky Lantern, Ridasiyna, Royal Delta

What: Horse Racing Betting Tips – The Breeders’ Cup

Where: Santa Anita

When: Friday and Saturday, November 2nd and 3rd

The Breeders’ Cup is not only a spectacle for horse racing fans, it’s also a golden opportunity for serious bettors to make a score. As I’ve pointed out many times, these huge wagering pools are filled with ‘square money’. Thus, the payoffs, especially for exotic wagers, are often incredibly high. I’ll be putting together some $1.00 Pick 4’s and $2.00 Pick 6’s for both days, which you’ll see below. Because of space constraints, I won’t be able to offer much in the way of handicapping insights. However, you may want to check out my article from last Friday, as my opinions haven’t changed significantly.

Pick 6:

Race 4 (BC Juvenile Sprint): #3-Merit Man; #5-Super Ninety Nine.

Race 5 (BC Marathon): #1-Atigun; #2-Fame and Glory.

Race 6 (BC Juvenile Fillies Turf): #3-Sky Lantern; #5-Spring Venture; #6-Watsdachances. These three have a combined record of 12-9-2-1. Irish-bred Sky Lantern looks like a special filly.

Race 7 (BC Juvenile Fillies): #1-Beholder; #2-Executiveprivilege; #3-Spring in the Air; #5-Dreaming of Julia; #8-Kauai Katie. Spring in the Air looks live at 15-1 if she takes to the dirt.

Race 8 (BC Filly & Mare Turf): #4-The Fugue; #9-Marketing Mix; #10-Ridasiyna; #12-In Lingerie. Sophomore Euro-invaders The Fugue and Ridasiyna have already beaten their elders in Group 1’s, and will be very tough. In Lingerie is the wild card at 12-1 if she likes the lawn.

Race 9 (BC Ladies’ Classic): #6-Royal Delta. You have to sprinkle in a single or two to keep the cost of the ticket in line with your budget. If you’re alive going into the last leg, you could do a lot worse than singling the defending champ, who appears to be better than ever.

$2.00 Pick 6 Ticket: 3,5/1,2/3,5,6/1,2,3,5,8/4,9,10,12/6…$480.00.

Pick 4:

Races 6-9…Same selections as Pick 6 (feel free to add horses as your bankroll permits).

$1.00 Pick 4 Ticket: 3,5,6/1,2,3,5,8/4,9,10,12/6…$60.00.

I’m also betting on #3-Sky Lantern to win the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf at odds of 5-2 or better, on #10-Ridasiyna to win the BC Filly & Mare Turf at odds of 3-1 or better, and finally on #6-Royal Delta to win the BC Ladies’ Classic at odds of 3-2 or better.

Those are my horse racing betting tips for Friday’s Breeders’ Cup card. Look for Part 2 of this article, covering Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup card, by 6:00 PM ET today (if not sooner).
