San Pasqual Stakes Betting - Set To Uncoil a Victory

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 1/3/2013 5:30:45 PM

What: San Pasqual Stakes Who: Coil (win)
Where: Santa Anita
When: Saturday, January 5

The San Pasqual Indians lived for thousands of years on the present site of the San Diego Zoo but they never envisioned the San Pasqual Stakes at Santa Anita Saturday would attract such an inspiring field for online sports betting site players to contemplate.

The purse for this 8 and a half-furlong Grade 2 event is a cool $150,000 and the lucky winner of this race will follow in the successful footsteps of runners like Native Diver, Flying Paster, Silver Charm and Congaree if they reach the winner’s circle.

Last year Uh Oh Bango shipped in and got an ideal 2-hole trip to record a 95 Beyer and Bob Baffert, who has 4 horses in this race, has two shippers primed to make some noise.

Hoorayforhollywood was bet like a good thing in his last race at Hoosier but had to work hard every step of the way and just wilted when it counted.

Baffert’s other shipper, Coil, seems much more in a spot to win today. The son of Point Given won a Grade 1 on the this surface in October sprinting, was trouble in the BC Sprint and was beaten foes when 4 clear showing in the Cigar Mile at the Big A on November 24.

The distance will be no problem for this guy as he took the Grade 1 Haskell at Monmouth in 2011 and 9 furlongs and the runner brings the top last-race Beyer to the party.  He has trained extremely fast for this race as he posted a best of 102 bullet work last Saturday on this surface in :58 2/5.

Jaycito will break from the rail for Baffert and this guy got to lugging winning a classified allowance in last. He has some back class but it is deep in the results as he won a betting sites Grade 1 in Arcadia in 2010.

Bar patrons may be looking at Baffert’s last runner in here, Bank the Eight. He showed his skills as a pool sharp in a stakes win in Maryland but it was way back in 2010.

Tres Borrachos is out to snap seconditis but he is 0 for 9 at Anita and failed to win in 2012.

Ultimate Eagle will try to steal it. He is basically a turn horse but he won on the turf to dirt maneuver here last winter in the Grade 2 Strub. He wilted off a long layoff last time but has every right to improve.

John Scott proved he belongs in this league when second in the summer in a Grade 1 at Del Mar. Troubled in his last pair; this guy is 0 for 4 at Santa Anita.

Key Decision is in the cagey hands of A.C. Avila but he could be pitched a tad too high. His best stakes results in the states was a third in a restricted event at Del Mar when he lost ground in the lane. He could get fried if he tries to run with the Eagle early on.

The red flag will be out on Golden Itiz. Off for 364 days, he has lost twice since 2011 and has been handled by a number of runners in here.

When the gates open Ultimate Eagle will be the one to catch but Baffert may have that ticket covered with his charge Hoorayforhollywood, who may be sacrificed on the front end. Key Decision will take up run but this may be a case of too much too early for the speed horses.

Take a shot on Coil. He has shown the ability to track close up or come from left field and win. He was beaten by likely champion sprinter Trinniberg two back and was knocked out by another nice horse in Stay Thirsty last time.

Good luck with your horse betting.
