Prioress Stakes Betting – Prioress Moves To Saratoga In 2012

Posted by Marco Sussman on 7/24/2012 6:00:58 PM

Sports betting sharps looking for the 2012 Grade 1-Prioress Stakes won’t find it at Belmont Park, where it was held since 1986 after 26 years at Aquaduct. Instead, this six-furlong sprint will be held at Saratoga, which is the oldest sports venue of any sport in the United States and these four horses will take to the track, but you should always make sure that you check the final field before you make your picks. Three-year-old fillies are the specialty in this race.

Stopshoppingmaria finished second to Stephanie’s Kitten in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, and then second to Jazzy Idea in the Crank Up Stakes in June. Stopshoppingmaria has had three jockeys in five races and the last was her first with Joe Bravo, but their relationship got off to a good start at Monmouth Park and she’ll be the prohibitive horse betting favorite when the lines are released. Trainer Todd Pletcher is also looking for his first win in the Prioress, which is named for the filly that was the first American horse to win a race in England, way back in 1858.

Agave Kiss shouldn’t be far behind Stopshoppingmaria, although she came in fifth at the Grade-3 Victory Ride at Belmont Park. It was the first time in seven career races that Agave Kiss failed to finish first, but it was only her second graded-stakes race and she should be ready for a better trip at Saratoga. Many experts were left with a bad taste in their mouth by Agave Kiss’ lackluster performance, but it was her second with jockey Ramon Dominguez (who won this race with Cat Moves in 2009) and she should be much better at Saratoga.

Emma’s Encore absolutely stunned the horse betting crowd with her win in the Victory Ride, and no one would have expected it after she finished eighth in the Grade 2-Gulfstream Oaks. But you never know what is going to happen when you get to the race track and it was a glorious day for Emma’s Encore. Now, the trick is to do it again and that will be a better gauge of where she is among the three-year-olds.

Jamaican Smoke was another horse that wasn’t highly regarded, although she did win a maiden and an allowance race heading into the Victory Lane, where she finished second. Javier Castellano returned to the saddle after taking two races off, and if he is there again, an upset could be in the cards.
Give the nod to Agave Kiss after struggling at the Victory Lane, as she and Dominguez should have a better connection and we know Dominguez knows how to get a horse around Saratoga. Agave Kiss is the online betting play to make.
