????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Here's what Pete wrote on our website the day before these races:

The Belmont Stakes

As I see it, there are only three horses capable of winning this race. I???ll discuss their pros and cons in order of preference:

#3-Union Rags (3-1): He???s the most accomplished horse on dirt, with a record of 7-4-1-1 ($1,198,800). One of those wins came over this very track in last year???s Grade 1 Champagne, in which he overcame a troubled trip to win impressively going away. There???s plenty of long-distance breeding on his dam???s side???that, coupled with his long, fluid stride, suggests that the 1 ??-mile distance of the Belmont Stakes is within his scope. Also, the switch to jockey John Velazquez pairs him with a rider who knows the Belmont Park oval like the back of his hand. You???ll recall Johnny V. won this race aboard the filly Rags to Riches in 2007, defeating two-time Horse of the Year Curlin in the process. With a clean trip, I???m expecting Union Rags to gallop this field into the ground???I???ll bet on Union Rags to win at odds of 8-5 or better.

The Hollywood Oaks

A trio of Grade 1 winners will head postward in the Hollywood Oaks, and all could be lukewarm in the betting???I???ll take a shot against all three of the aforementioned fillies and side with recent maiden grad #6-Potesta (4-1). She won big on the stretchout and surface switch, earning a very competitive Beyer Speed Figure of 90 in the process. She???s been favored in both career starts, and could lead this field on a merry chase with Joe Talamo getting the return call. She gets in light too, with a 113-lb. weight assignment. Potesta looks like an all-or-nothing proposition to me, so I???ll bet her strictly to win at odds of 3-1 or better.

The Shoemaker Mile

If you???re looking for value in Saturday???s co-featured Grade 1???s at Hollywood Park, look no further than???Jeranimo (7-2) in the Shoemaker Mile. Here???s why:

The Shoemaker Mile may unfold in a similar manner, with speedy shipper Little Mike (3-1) battling it out on the front end with hard-knocking 7YO Liberian Freighter (12-1). That may set the table for closers Jeranimo (7-2) and the favored Mr. Commons (2-1). I???ll take my chances with Jeranimo. He???s not as consistent as Mr. Commons, but on his best day, he???s as good if not better. Note that when Jeranimo beat Mr. Commons in the Oak Tree Mile, he spotted that rival 4 lbs. Garrett Gomez owns a win and a second in his two most recent trips aboard Jeranimo, and may save a bit more ground than Mr. Commons, who has drawn the outside post with a short run to the first turn. Also note that Jeranimo has won 2-of-3 starts over the Hollywood Park sod. I???ll bet on Jeranimo to win the Shoemaker Mile at odds of 3-1 or better.
