Online Preakness Stakes Betting - The Drama Is Thick At The Preakness

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 5/17/2012 2:59:00 PM

Who: Thoroughbreds –  I’ll Have Another (key top and bottom in trifecta with Bodemeister, Went the Day Well, Creative Cause, Daddy Nose Best and Zetterholm.
What: Horse Racing Betting Tips – Preakness Stakes
Where: Pimlico
When: Saturday May 19th

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend but for the runners in the Preakness Saturday, it’s all about winning the second jewel of the Triple Crown.

With no Hansen and no Trinniberg the adage ‘the pace makes the race’ will never be so evident in the Preakness.

The Derby in contrast appeared to have a ton of zip, but Bodemeister got a flyer and almost went all the way.

Bodemeister figures to go to the front once again on the betting sites and the splits should be softer this time. Of course, he set some of the fastest Derby splits ever and just could not carry on with the momentum. He has not worked since the Derby but Baffert, who is seeking his 6th Preakness, did the same thing 2 years ago with Preakness hero Lookin at Lucky. He is drawn right and he has a shot to prove he is something special, a runner that can sizzle early and just keep going.

I’ll Have Another had the sloppy excuse for the hopeful loss but has been consistent throughout his career. Breaking the 19 slot in the Derby, this guy does not have to be that far back today and would not be shocked if he is sent along not allowing Bode to control the entire best sportsbook online race.

Creative Cause ran okay in the Derby but he had aim at the top of the lane but faltered when it counted. His wins have come basically in smallish fields and would love to see this guy show that killer instinct.

Went the Day Well is another that could be a lot closer early this time. He added the blinks in the Derby and was running late and that despite being hooked 7 wide. The runner was bumped at the break in last, checked a furlong out, and checked again on the first turn. His trainer had this to say in the DRF, Graham Motion: “he is a horse that still hasn’t been completely exposed. Every time I’ve run this horse, to me he’s improved. Johnny (Velazquez) said he was 8 to 10 lengths farther back than he wanted to be going into the first turn.”

Cozzetti beat a half dozen rivals for his only victory and it was slop aided. He was a non-threatening third in the Tampa Derby and he had no real excuse when beaten by Bodemeister in the Ark Derby. Now he has to try to negotiate the extreme outside.

Optimizer shocked at 27-1 to open career but has not been able to close the deal since. He has zero speed and has only run one good race this year and he was just too late that day in the Rebel.

Zetterholm must prove he can win outside of Empire land. His one stakes score, came against a small field when he had to come from dead last.

Tiger Walk talked the talk during about 6-week period last year but has lost all three stakes attempts and his style suggests the sun, the moon and the stars have to be aligned. No horse has won this race inside the hole since 1994 when Tabasco Cat succeeded from the rail. Before that, the last horse to win the second jewel from the rail was Belly Ache in 1960.

Daddy Nose Best proved it on the conventional at Sunland and he didn’t get the best of trips at Churchill. He was not exactly flattered when the place horse in the Sunland Derby only beat three to the wire next out in Bodemeister’s ARK Derby victory.

Pretension is another Empire-bred that rates a glance in the gimmicks. Locally based runners have done well in the last decade in the gimmicks in this race and the win over the surface can only help. He was troubled in the Hawthorne race but they were all on the line in last and that’s sometimes a case of just an ordinary race.

Teeth of the Dog is a second stringer from the Michael Matz barn. He has won at 9 furlongs but could not quicken in time in Gemologist’s Wood win.

It’ll be Bodemeister trying to hold on but I’ll Have Another will have another jewel in his cap with Went the Day Well completing the trifecta. Also use Creative Cause, Daddy Nose Best and Zetterholm in a top and bottom key.

Good luck with your online sports betting.
