Online Breeders Cup Betting - Fall Action at Anita

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 9/24/2012 6:12:36 PM

They say ‘if you build it, they will come’ and Santa Anita has built a pretty nice stakes structure for this year’s fall meeting with 28 stakes that online sports betting site players can focus on including the crescendo in the $23.5 million Breeders’ Cup World Championship on November 2 and 3.

The first Saturday on September 29 will offer 5 $250,000 “Win and You’re In” stakes which means just what it indicates, win and you punch your ticket to the Breeders’ Cup.

The next Saturday the Grade 1 $250,000 Santa Anita Sprint Championship will be carded for the fastest runners in the Wild Wild West.

The final two $250,000 stakes will be run on October 13 as the Cal Cup Juvenile and Cal Cup Juvenile Fillies will be renewed.

There are some unfashionable barns that have excelled at this fall Anita meet over the years and it would be no surprise if that trend continues.

Take a glance at what Silverio Martinez did with his main track runners. He only saddled 9 at last year’s fall meet but a third of them came back to be greeted in the winner’s circle.

Kristen Mulhall sent out 17 sprinters during the meet and 4 won, 4 ran second, and 5 ran third. That’s bringing back horse betting checks.

It takes special training to get a horse to go a route of ground sometimes. Sometimes they have to be given a foundation, sometimes they need a couple of sprints to hone their speed and sometimes runners just need more real estate to show their best ability.

Peter Miller, who burst on to the racing scene as a main player just a few years ago with a huge meeting at Del Mar, sent out 5 routers at last year’s meet and 4 won and the other ran 2nd.

Trainer Simon Callaghan is a very nicely kept secret in Southern California. He grew up in England, studied under Todd Pletcher when he first plied his trade stateside and he’s had runners in the Breeders’ Cup. During last year’s meet, he sent out 8 routers and 3 won.

Michael Pender, who earned a Masters Degree in Psychology from Pepperdine, is seldom outwitted on the backstretch of Santa Anita.

He saddled his first winner just 7 years ago but has made some clever purchases. He took Polonius for $150,000 from a sale and watched offers roll in for the runner at over $2.5 million.

He bought Jeranimo for $70,000 and was there as that runner earned over $800,000.
At least year’s fall meet he sent out 2 routers and they both won.

As far as post position is concerned, there were a few things to glean from the results of last year Fall SA meeting. Sprinting, the posts played pretty evenly. The rail popped at 11.3%, the 3 post was the best at 15.5% and there were only 2 winners all meet from posts 12 and 13 and the 14 slot was 0 for 5.

Routes were quite a bit different. You did not want to be on the rail routing as only two winners came from the inside slot after 70 starters.

You could cash from anyplace on the turf course with the best post the 6 slot at a 19% flat rate.

At the upcoming meet, if the evaluations in a race come down to runners trained by these conditions, online sports betting sites players should keep in mind their strengths.
