Who: Thoroughbreds
What: Horse Racing Betting Tips – The Frizette, The Champagne, The Santa Anita Sprint Championship
Where: Belmont Park, Santa Anita
When: Saturday, October 6th

A host talented runners will line up this Saturday in a trio of Grade 1 races on dirt, with several likely to move on to the Breeders’ Cup in early November. Juveniles will be featured at Belmont Park in the 65th Running of the Frizette for fillies and the 141st Running of the Champagne for horses of either sex. Older sprinters, including last year’s champ, Amazombie, will head postward in the inaugural Running of the Santa Anita Sprint Championship. Let’s take a look at the major players below.

#7-Dreaming of Julia (2-5) looks like a standout in the Frizette, and I won’t try to beat her. She has won both her starts by a combined margin of nearly 27 lengths without breaking a sweat. Her most recent win came over the Belmont strip at the Frizette distance of one mile. She has drawn the outside post, which gives regular rider John Velazquez plenty of options. Her top Beyer Speed Figure of 90 is the field’s best. Try to beat her at your financial peril.

In the Champagne, trainer Todd Pletcher’s embarrassment of riches includes #2-Shanghai Bobby (3-1), #4-Archwarrior (5-2) and #7-Micromanage (5-1). Micromanage may scratch in favor of a minor 2-turn stakes at Delaware Park on Saturday. The Pletcher runners will be challenged by impressive maiden winner #1-Goldencents (3-1), who is shipping in from the left coast for trainer Doug O’Neill. I’ll be betting on #4-Archwarrior to win at odds of 8-5 or better. He ran to his huge reputation when drawing off in his career debut at Saratoga by more than 3 lengths. His gallop-out that day was particularly impressive, and he’s bred to go long, so the extra distance of the Champagne shouldn’t pose much of a problem. I’ll also bet the 7-4 Pletcher/Velazquez Grade 1 Daily Double (Dreaming of Julia with Archwarrior).

The 6YO #2-Amazombie (9-5) hasn’t lost a step since his championship 2011 season. His 2012 record (4-2-1-1) includes a Grade 1 win last out in the Bing Crosby at Del Mar. He followed a similar schedule last year with a win in the Grade 1 Ancient Title in early October, followed by his Breeders’ Cup Sprint victory at Churchill Downs. He’s in with a talented group here, including the speedy 3YO filly Reneesgotzip, but none possess his credentials. I’ll take Amazombie to win at odds of 7-5 or better.

Those are my horse racing betting tips for this weekend. Best of luck and happy gambling!
