Favorites Vulnerable in Bayakoa, Hollywood Starlet
By Pete Mitchell

Who: Thoroughbreds – Lady of Fifty, Inglorious, Midnight Ballet, Executiveprivilege
What: Horse Racing Betting Tips – The Bayakoa, The Hollywood Starlet
Where: Hollywood Park
When: Saturday, December 8th

There’s loads of quality in Saturday’s feature races at Hollywood Park. The Grade 2 Baykoa is headed by millionaire Inglorious, who will be making her Hollywood Park debut off a 5-month layoff. Later in the card, ultra-impressive 2YO filly Executiveprivilege will go off the heavy favorite in the Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet. She’ll be fitted with blinkers for the first time, and Mike Smith will take over the riding chores from Rafael Bejarano, thus complicating our handicapping efforts. Let’s see below who the upsetters might be.

In defense of #7-Inglorious’ chances in the Bayakoa, she has won 5-of-6 starts on Woodbine’s artificial surface, so the Hollywood’s main track shouldn’t pose much of a problem. Her career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 99 tops this field, and she has turned in a series of stamina-building workouts leading up to her return to action. She could win this event, but I don’t see much value in her 5-2 morning line odds. Perhaps the improving #3-Lady of Fifty (5-1) can rain on Inglorious’ parade. Lady of Fifty won both of her 2-turn stakes efforts vs. females at Golden Gate Fields, and turned in a lifetime-best Beyer of 91 last out in winning the one-mile Palm Springs Handicap on the Santa Anita main track. She’s a big, strapping filly that trainer Jerry Hollendorfer has been high on since early in her career. I’m expecting her to work out a comfortable, stalking trip, and get the jump on Inglorious turning for home. I’ll bet on #3-Lady of Fifty to win and place at odds of 9-2 or better.

Executiveprivilege looks imposing in the Hollywood Starlet, but the jockey/equipment change adds an element of uncertainty. At 6-5 on the morning line, I’m inclined to try and beat her. There’s ample speed signed on, with #4-Blonde Fog (3-1), #6-Executiveprivilege (6-5), and #8-Rhodium (20-1) all capable of carving out the early fractions. Perhaps this race sets up for a closer like #5-Midnight Ballet (6-1). She’s 2-for-2 on polytrack, and won her two-turn stakes debut last out despite encountering trouble at the start. This lightly-raced Tom Proctor trainee will be rolling late. I’ll bet on #5-Midnight Ballet to win and place at odds of 5-1 or better, and box her in the exacta with #6-Executiveprivilege.

Those are my horse racing betting tips for this weekend. Best of luck and happy gambling!
