Diana Stakes Betting – Princess Diana

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 7/26/2012 6:10:53 PM

Who: Thoroughbreds – Winter Memores (win).
What: Horse Racing Betting Tips –  Diana Stakes
Where: Saratoga
When: Saturday July 28

They would have rolled out the royal red carpet if Princess Diana showed up for the $600,000 Diana Stakes at Saratoga but online horse betting enthusiasts will have to settle for some quality fillies going a mile and a eighth on grass in this Grade 1 fixture.

First run in 1939, the winners of this race read like a Who’s Who of racing. Names like Gamely, Shuvee, Waya, De La Rose and Forever Together have been honored in the winner’s circle and last year Zagora was coming off a tough head beat in a Grade 2 at Belmont directly before coming from mid-pack to win going away while posting a 98 Beyer for trainer Chad Brown.

Hungry Island is repeatedly proven fresh including a win here last year in the Grade 2 Lake Placid. She has a penchant for finding the wire but will need help up front and must quicken in time from the outside slot.

Tapitsfly draws the rail and is the sports betting real deal. She has never been out of the exacta on the Saratoga grass, and proved she could handle this caliber foe in last when taking the Grade 1 Just a Game flagfall to that’s all.

Winter Memories will break from post 5 and is 7 for 11 career with 2 seconds. She is an exciting miss that has not yet topped out. Hung wide in last, she had dead aim but could not collar Tapitsfly. Should be a handful right back.

Zagora is out to defend her title as she won this fixture last year at a fat 5-1. Since, she has cashed 3 of 5 and she has trained very well locally and will be ridden by red-hot Ramon Dominquez.

Law of the Range will be making her stateside debut. She has lost all 4 starts this year, was a dull 6th at 50-1 in a Group 2 in last and seems to have her work cut out today.

Dream Peace is also making her first start in America. She showed her class about a year ago taking a Group 2 at Deauville and she got beat a head and a nose in the Grade 1 E. P. Taylor at Woodbine in her 2011 closer.

In reality, this looks like a replay of the recently run Just a Game Stakes. At first glance, it looks like Tapitsfly will get a lonely uncontested lead but the feeling is somebody will push her a little early on.

The pusher just might be Law of the Range, who always flashed tactical speed in England and the other concern is the stamina issue for Tapitsfly. She has tried to go 9 furlongs twice, once on grass at Churchill and once on the synthetic at Keeneland.

In both of those races, Tapitsfly either had the lead or was 2nd early, but lost ground in the stretch to run out of the money in both 9-furlong efforts.

That leaves it up to Winter Memories to collar them all. She won a Grade 2 last year on this inner course, can handle soft and firm grass and seems to be tightened down for a peak performance.

Hopefully, it will be a thanks for the online betting Memories day.

Good luck.
