Cat Cay Stakes Betting - The Cat’s Meow

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 1/3/2013 5:32:27 PM

What: Cat Cay Stakes  Who:  Sunny Desert (win)
Where: Aqueduct
When: Sunday, January 6

Okay, here’s the deal. It’s kind of cold outside, you have a bit of a cold yourself but a race comes on the TV that is about to go in 10 minutes from the Big A. It’s not a major event, but for online sports betting site players, an opportunity is an opportunity.

The race is the Cat Cay Stakes Sunday at Aqueduct at a mile and 70 yards for newly turned 4-year-olds with $75,000 the carrot and the purse.

They say good things come in small packages and 5 entrants make this a small package.

From the rail out, Wildcat’s Smile is the first to go into the gate. This miss stepped outside the New York-bred arena to win last time out on this inner surface. She beat some runners that had higher Beyers going into the race but she got an ideal 2-hole trip to win going away with an 83 Beyer in a short field.

Los Ojitos was just beaten by Smile. She has a nice stalking style but could not make up any ground in the last race and even lost nearly 2 full lengths at crunch time.

Sunny Desert has been a horse betting win machine in restricted or Empire-bred land. She has not raced since November, but is repeatedly proven off the bench. She has lost all three starts on this inner surface, but she has the need for speed and will be a force up front.

Moon Philly is probably what former Eagles coach Andy Reid really wants to do but this miss has run 4 big races in a row. She won two of those events and lost two, both by a neck. Her only poor effort came on the synthetic at Presque Isle in the summer.

Morrow Cove goes from the inside to the outside here. She got a feel of the inner strip in last when chasing Wildcat’s Smile to the wire. She has handled a number of different venues and has every right to improve after getting a feel of this inner strip.

The way this track has been playing you sure don’t want to come from left field. The ideal spot to be of late is on the lead or very close to the lead. There were only a couple of stalkers that won on the inner on New Year’s Day but if you were not in the hunt early, the odds were stacked against the horse.

It’s not Always Sunny in Philadelphia, it just might be a Sunny Desert day in New York here. This miss has won 5 races in a row, has been versatile enough to track or lead and succeed and she retains the services of Ramon Dominquez, who is popping at a 37% win clip this meet.

This gal went :45 3/5 and 1:10 flat winning an $85,000 stakes in September and if she runs back to that race, the rest are looking at minor sports betting prizes.
