Betting On Horse Racing – High Flying in the Cardinal

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 11/8/2012 5:29:09 PM

What: Cardinal Handicap
Who: Daisy Devine (key on top with Julie’s Love, Bizzy Caroline and La Cloche)
Where: Churchill Downs
When: Saturday, November 10

A quality-laden group of 9 fillies and mares pit skills at Churchill Saturday in the Grade 3 $100,000 Cardinal Handicap and the race is wide open for online betting players to contemplate.

Last year Deluxe was just that as rebounded from a poor effort in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl to sit about 3 and a half off the lead before winning this race by a half-length with a 91 Beyer.

Bizzy Caroline is taking the same route that Deluxe did as she was a dull sixth in the Flower Bowl. She did get boost when the place horse in that race returned to take the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.

Caroline’s best asset is that she adores the grass course at Churchill.

La Cloche has limited speed but is coming off a clever win at 9-2 in the Grade 3 Athenia last month at Belmont.

Revelstoke has won 6 times but only once on grass. She seems ambitiously placed as she was far back at 43-1 in her last race and that was not a Graded event.

Daisy Devine should be a handful. She has won half of her 14 outs, exits the best race as she was a solid 2nd beaten a half length in a Grade 1 at Keeneland and she proved her class taking the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley in April.

Affair Dabbler will be a price. She is looking for her first sports betting victory in any kind of stakes and with her style, she will need a lot of help up front.

Last Full Measure has only raced 7 times but she has shown flashes of brilliance. She has run well at a number of different venues but was all out to beat allowance foes in her last race and you don’t quite know how much that may have taken out of her.

Indian Pond will be in a rebound mode. She has not won in 4 starts this year and her last win came in a Canadian-bred stakes at Woodbine over a year ago.

Fugitive Angel may have to sprout wings to get there first. She was the beaten chalk in last and that was a much softer affair.

Julie’s Love has only run poorly once this year and she was hooked wide that day. She was Group 2 placed last year in Germany, has won half of her starts this year and proved she fits with a length beat in a Grade 3 in July.

The adage ‘pace makes the race’ will be in full play in this race as Daisy Devine has the speed to control the early going and the outcome. She has natural zip, but doesn’t need the lead to win and she won a Grade 3 for today’s rider, Calvin Borel, last year.

That win came in a second off the layoff run and that is the same situation she faces today.

The play is to key her on top in the gimmicks with Julie’s Love, Bizzy Caroline and La Cloche.

Good luck with your horse betting.
