Betting On Breeders Cup - Breeder’s Cup Marathon

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 10/8/2012 6:31:05 PM

What: Breeders’ Cup Marathon Preview
Where: Santa Anita
When: Friday, November 2

Only the strong survive in this horse betting world and the accent will be on stamina obviously in the Marathon as the stout of the equine set will be asked to go a mile and three quarters for a purse of $500,000.

Redeemed punched his ticket for this race by winning the Grade 3 Greenwood Cup Handicap in Philly in mid-July.

Trained by Richard Dutrow Jr., Redeemed has won 3 of his first 5 this year and 8 of 13 overall. He has been versatile enough to lead and score or track and get the job done.

Eldaafer tries this race last year but was hung wide from post 10 and finished mid-pack. This guy has been pretty lightly raced in the last couple of years and he got a nice confidence builder September 8 winning a $51,000 Delaware stakes.

Richard’s Kid has plenty of back class as he took a Grade 1 two years ago and finished second to Game on Dude in the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup this July. The runner had a valid excuse of bobbling in the Pacific Classic and was just left with too much work to do late. If he doesn’t go in the Classic, he could end up here.

Dynamic Host doesn’t always put his best betting sites foot forward, but he is a tough cookie when he brings his A game and he likes Anita, as he proved when he won a mile and a half Grade 3 in Arcadia in his second start of 2012.

Brown Panther is one stout runner. He has run huge at the Marathon distance on grass as evidenced by his effort on September 15, when he was third beaten just a head in a Grade 1 at the Curragh in Ireland. He recorded a 110 Racing Post Rating that day and with an honest pace, he could make some series noise in Arcadia. And this guy can carry weight to boot.

The connections of Jakkalberry have pointed for the Marathon for some time now and they came to Arlington Park to put rivals on notice this guy means business. In that $400,000 race, this runner rated mid-pack about 6 off the lead, was unleashed to make the lead at the top of the lane, then improved his position from there.

This son of Storming Home is versatile enough to be placed anywhere and still perform.

Zuider Zee just chased Jakkalberry home in Chicago but he has a couple of things in his favor. He is trained by John Gosden, who knows his way around the Anita winner’s circle and he doesn’t bring a knife to a gunfight. This was shown when he beat 22 rivals just over a year ago at a mile and a half on grass.

As this race unfolds, pace will be a factor but the feeling is the splits will not be hot and heavy. The sports betting emphasis must be on the ability to go the 15 rounds of a heavyweight fight and still hold the winning interview.
