What: Arkansas Derby Who: Bayern

Where: Oaklawn Park
When: Saturday, April 12

The Arkansas Derby has drawn a competitive field of 9 and they come from Florida, New Mexico and California to join the local forces for a huge Kentucky Derby prep.

Online sports betting site players should not discount this race. A lot of good horses have won this Derby and went on to future success. Two runners succeeded in this fray and went on to take the Belmont Stakes. Six runners cashed here and took the Preakness and Concern won this race in 1994 and later took the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Sunny’s Halo won this Derby in 1983 geared down and took the Kentucky Derby and Smarty Jones won this race, took 2 thirds on the Triple Crown before getting beat by Birdstone in the Belmont Stakes.

Last year Overanalyze was coming out of a 5th in the Gotham at Aqueduct before coming from 7 th to win going away with an 89 Beyer.

Danza showed ability last year. He won at first asking, was only beaten a half-length in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special and was a wide third in his 2014 opener.

Knock Em Flat just drew off to graduate but it was a bit phony since it was slop aided.

Tapiture has never run a bad race. It took him a few races to figure it out but he broke his maiden in a Grade 2 and then opened this season with a Grade 3 race here at Oaklawn. He is out to make amends after failing as chalk in the Rebel last time but the horse that beat him returned to run 2 nd in California Chrome’s Santa Anita Derby success.

Ride on Curlin is proven locally, was hung out to dry in the Southwest Stakes in February and ran well in defeat in the Rebel.

Thundergram is ambitiously placed. He finally broke through in the slop here in January and lost a heart breaker in his first vs. winners. He has drilled sharply since the win but is facing some that have clever stakes credentials.

Commissioner may not have cared for the rail in his 2014 opener and he lost best chance when he bobbled in the Sunland Derby.

Conquest Titan will need plenty of help up front. He graduated showing speed on the synthetic overcame the marooned 12 slot for the other win but he has just kicked too late in the last pair.

Bayern would have been highly-regarded in the San Felipe but he had a setback and shows up here. He was visually brilliant when he won his second start to remain unbeaten and he has trained like the proverbial Swiss clock for this race. The blood is there as his sire won the Grade 1 Suburban at the Kentucky Derby distance of a mile and a quarter with a 103 Beyer. His dam was unraced and both of his siblings won routing.

Strong Mandate got good for about 2 weeks last year. Far from disgraced in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile but he has lost ground in the lane in his two starts this year.

Bayern acts like he can run all day long his rider Gary Stevens should be able to put him anywhere he wants to get comfortable. A payday here and it’s on to Louisville.
