Betting Eddie Read Stakes – Acclamation Looks To Go Back-To-Back At Del Mar In The Eddie Read Stakes

Posted by Marco Sussman on 7/17/2012 4:38:53 PM

Sports betting players can try and fill up their time during the summer by wagering on horse racing, and the Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes will go off on Saturday at Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, California. Acclamation won last year’s 1 1/8 mile race for horses that are three years and above, and he’ll aim to become the first horse since Special Ring in 2003 and 2004 to win this event in two straight years.

Acclamation should be the horse betting favorite in your sportsbook for this race as the six-year-old has won six starts in a row, and he is out to complete his second back-to-back after doing it at the Grade 1 Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicap. Acclamation has been a good earner in his later years, but he’ll have to hold off a strong field.

Casino Host finished seventh at the Colonial Turf Cup, and after two straight wins the four-year-old colt hasn’t finished higher than fourth in his last two starts. Casino Host will need to get to a quick start to really put the pressure on Acclamation.

Suggestive Boy is coming off a solid second-place run at the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile, which
was his first race outside of Argentina and he’ll inject a little bit of foreign flair into the race. That was the first time in four races that Suggestive Boy failed to come away with the win, but it was still a great performance against the best field that the four-year-old has ever faced, which can only make him a better horse.

Norvsky is a six-year-old that has finished third or worse in four of his last five starts, and this is where the field starts to go downhill, although you never know what is going to happen in the world of horse betting. Slim Shadey should also get a look after finishing second to Acclamation in the Whittingham Memorial, although he followed that result with a disappointing fifth-place run at the Grade 1 United Nations.

The field is filled out by Utopian, who finished third in the Whittingham Handicap, Holladay Road, Interaction and Hog’s Hollow, but the winner should come from the top four horses and it is tough to look past Acclamation, who has been on fire and has won two of his three starts at Del Mar, which includes last year’s win in the Eddie Read and then a victory at the Grade 1 Pacific Classic. He’ll get pushed by Suggestive Boy, who continues to impress from Argentina, but if you’re hoping to pick the winner of this race, Acclamation should be the play at online betting sites.
