Betting Breeders Cup – Breeder’s Cup Action Friday

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 10/30/2012 6:45:33 PM

What: Breeders’ Cup Action Friday
Where: Santa Anita
When: November 2

The Juvenile Sprint kicks off the horse betting extraganza about 1 p.m. on Friday and it is a wide-open affair but please take a serious look at the filly Merit Man. He was professional winning the debut and got a boost when the place horse and the fourth finisher that day graduated next out. The way he drew out winning the $100,000 Tim Conway suggests there is just more to come.

Trainer Bob Hess has been winning races in bunches and Merit Man will be ridden by Pat Valenzuela, who also rode the first BC race in 1984.

In the Marathon reformed claimer Worth Keeping has run to her namesake after being claimed for $62,500 in June. She since has run 2nd and 4th in Graded company and freaked on the Fairplex surface. The pick here though is Fame and Glory, who although will be making his first start on the dirt, he is a proven stayer that should adore the mile and three quarters event here.

Fame and Glory has class, he has earned over $2.3 million, won at 2 miles to close out 2011 and is repeatedly proven at this distance. His trainer, Aidan O’Brien won this race in 2009 at Santa Anita with Man of Iron, who got up by a nose at the wire.

The Juvenile Fillies Turf will be a lean toward the Europeans with Sky Lantern the class of the field. Waterway Run must also be respected as she has only lost once and it was her first online betting start against winners. Spring Venture has been solid but who has she been beating in Canada?

The best baby fillies take the spotlight in the Juvenile Fillies and they may have to collar the Bob Baffert trainee Executiveprivilege. That runner is perfect after 5 starts and and she has won in a variety of ways.

Some of the most talented turf runners in the world pit skills in the Filly and Mare Turf and the two most potent stars are The Fugue and Ridasiyna with the edge going to the former. John Gosden, who has won 4 BC races, trains The Fugue and he knows his way around Anita. The Fugue also got a boost when the horse that just beat her a neck repeated in the Group 1 Prix Vermeille before splitting the cast in the Arc.

Star power abounds in the Ladies Classic with the unbeaten Awesome Feather, last year’s winner of this race in Royal Delta and Love and Pride who won the Grade 1 Zenyatta at Anita after beating Delta. Grace Hall, trained by Anthony Dutrow, got an ideal prep in the Indiana Oaks but she is facing elders and may need the race of her life.
This could be the best sports betting race in the entire two days and far be it to dismiss perfection so we’re looking for Awesome Feather to make 11 for 11.

The picks: Juvenile Sprint: Beholder
Marathon: Fame and Glory
Juvenile Fillies Turf: Sky Lantern
Juvenile Fillies: Executiveprivilege
Filly and Mare Turf: The Fugue
Ladies Classic: Awesome Feather
