Bet Breeders Cup – Breeder’s Cup Classic Preview

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 10/29/2012 6:28:52 PM

What: Breeders’ Cup Classic Preview
Where: Santa Anita
When: Saturday, November 3

The best horses in the world Saturday will put it all on the line and try to follow in the footsteps of Ferdinand, Alysheba, Sunday Silence, Cigar, Ghostzapper and Zenyatta by winning the $5 million mile and a quarter BC Classic.

Last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic saw Drosselmeyer come from 9th and 10 lengths back to wear down Game on Dude at 14-1 to post a winning 104 Beyer.

Revenge is the motive for The Dude and he will be one tough cookie to beat. As well as Chantel Sutherland rode this star, he got a pivotal rider switch when Rafael Bejarano took over. With Sutherland’s subsequent online betting retirement, it could not have happened at a better time.

This son of Awesome Again has never been beaten at Santa Anita, posted a 116 Beyer in a June win, brings brilliant speed to the party but can sit just off the pace and still perform. Factor in the connections and trainer Bob Baffert calling the shots and you have a legit chalk that looms very tough to beat.

If The Dude, who is not rough around the edges like Jeff Brides character in The Big Lebowski, there will be horse betting sites value all over the place.

Richard’s Kid can be one of those options. He can step up to the plate on big days as he has taken several Grade 1s in his career, could have been hurt but the apparent speed bias in the last race and this extra distance can only help.

Fort Larned had two tough races in a row and then just never kicked in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. If he can revert to his best race this year in the Whitney, he could throw a wrench into the works.

Dullahan looms an iffy proposition. He is clearly better on the synthetic and had no apparent excuse in his last defeat.

Ron the Greek has a couple of things in his favor like the fact he is trained by Bill Mott and that he is proven in Arcadia having won the Big ‘Cap in the winter coming from 14 back to cash going away.

Mott’s other charge, Flat Out, is peaking at the right time. He has won 6 of 19 in his career and has trained cleverly since his recent 109 winning Beyer performance.

The best thing Mucho Macho Man may have going for him is his tactical speed. That style should play very well in California and he was inching toward the sport betting winner at this classic distance in the Kentucky Derby last year.

Looking for a longshot chance? You could probably do worse than Pool Play, who has been first and 2nd in his career at this distance and just shocked them in Chicago at 16-1 in a Grade 2 at this very trip.

The Dude will gun early, Fort Larned will try to stay with him along with Mucho Macho Man. Approaching the top of the turn Dude will be asked the question and after about 2 minutes and change, we will all know who the alpha dog is in the equine nation.
