Bet On Breeders Cup – Breeder’s Cup Mile Preview

Posted by Brian Mulligan on 10/29/2012 6:30:14 PM

What: Breeders’ Cup Mile Preview
Where: Santa Anita
When: Saturday, November 3

Last year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile saw the favored and great Goldikova fail in her bid to become a fourth consecutive winner of the sports betting fixture and was overtaken late by Court Vision, who came from second to last to get up by a nose at 64-1.

Even with the chalk running third, the superfecta paid nearly $27,000.

Going into the race last year, the superfecta was a place to get paid as the average payoff in the Mile was nearly $17,000 and over the years, outside posts have been a source of value.

Wise Dan has been very tough since moving back to turf a few races ago. He is in the good hands of high percentage trainer Charles Lopresti and should give a very good account of himself.

The Europeans will be headed by Excelebration, who has won 3 of 5 this year and he has 2 seconds, both to the superstar Frankel. This son of Exceed and Excel has been in the exacta in 12 of 14 and has only run out of the money once. His style is to be prominent early and then take over.

Frankel, by the way, ended his career 14 for 14 carrying as much as 133 pounds to victory and is considered by some to be the best ever.

Excelebration’s trainer, Aidan O’Brien, had this to say recently about his student, O’Brien: “He’s in good form and I hope he travels there well. We think he’s a very exceptional horse. He’s getting quicker and stronger and has progressed very well.”
Little Mike will be looking for a big payday. He possesses blazing speed, is a multiple Graded winner at a mile and in August upset in the Arlington Million with a 102 Beyer.

Jeranimo is a millionaire with a solid late turn of foot. He won the Grade 1 Shoemaker in June with a 100 Beyer and is proven locally having taken a horse betting Grade 2 stakes on the Anita course.

Can’t fault those that go heavy on the Mister, as in Mr. Commons. This runner takes no prisoners in the stretch, was trouble in this race last year and ran his eyeballs out in defeat in August losing by a nose in a Grade 2 at Del Mar.

Obviously has won two Grade 2s in a row and he will give Little Mike all he can handle on the front end. He doesn’t need the lead to win and he can give you :44 and change speed if need be.

Moonlight Cloud will be trying to beat males in the Mile but she has faced the boys all year and beat them in a Group 1 in August while recording a 127 Racing Post Rating.
Don’t be shocked even if Animal Kingdom shows up in the Mile. The 2011 Kentucky Derby winner won on grass in his only start this year but has trained steadily for this fray. Proven fresh and like Rudy Tomjanovich said: “never underestimate the heart of a champion.”

A longshot look has to go to Suggestive Boy, who has been handled by betting sites Hall of Famer Ron McAnally.
